Introduction to a Renaissance city

Jan 4, 2013 / Hector

The group took a Florence tour by an experienced guide who familiarized us with to the main sites in the city, the route from the hotel to the Duomo, and suggestions about what sights to see and where they were located.  This was an excellent introduction to Florence.  Afterwards, I went to Santa Croce Church and Museo Dell Opera di Santa Maria de Fiore, both amazing.  The original “Gates of Paradise” at Museo Dell Opera were stunning.

For dinner, we had a group get together at the hotel for more in depth introduction to the SSU students/professors/significant others, with a serving of hotel wines.  Followed by a delicious dinner at La Rotonda which included pasta with cheese appetizer, medium rare filet steak, and cheese cake with chocolate desert.  Wines were a proseco, a Montepulciano Rosso, and a Chiani Classico.
