January 2nd: Goodbye America and Good Evening Italy!! Mallory O’Steen

The day has finally arrived for my adventures to the Italian wine country. This is the trip I have been looking forward to since I saw the ad posted in Stevenson hall during summer intersession. When I first signed up, I was ecstatic because this was my first time traveling abroad. I have always wanted to visit Italy since I was kid because my mom’s family is from there and she would always share her stories of visiting the country. I was also a little nervous traveling with an unknown group, but all that changed after our first meeting at Liz’s house.

I met up with Noam and Kerry in Palo Alto and we were all filled with excitement and smiles as we were driving to the airport. There were no lines at the Swiss Air desk so it was easy to check on my luggage and retrieve my boarding passes. We met up with most of the group at a Mexican restaurant where we filled ourselves with food and cocktails. We were then ready for the long 11-hour flight ahead of us.

Luckily the flight went by fast because I kept myself entertained watching television shows and movies on the screen in front of me. Swiss Air provided us with two complementary meals and beverages. When we arrived in Switzerland, we had to go through more security. Then we hopped on a small plane where we had arrived in Florence about an hour later.
